CHAMELEON
photo series 2008-2023
photo series 2008-2023
In the photo series "Chameleon"(2008-2018), which is actually a documentation of performative elements, Michailov makes himself quasi "invisible" by inserting himself in various ways into existing, found situations and ostentatiously taking up existential, socio-politically relevant themes such as being a follower and opportunism, but also the dwindling of freedom of expression, individualism and empathy.
(Viktor Bucher, Project Space Viktor Bucher, 2018)
Michail Michailov has been working on the photo series "Chameleon" since 2008. He does not seek out the motifs for the series, but rather encounters them accidentally and spontaneously, primarily in public space. The artist inscribes himself into these found realities with minimal additions, modifications, or gestures. Inspired by a special situation, Michailov casts himself as part of it, while at the same time manipulating the direction in which the image is read.
